Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
Be part of a dynamic team in the Corning’s development group where you can apply your knowledge and experience to solve complex problems to improve manufacturing cost & capabilities. With a focused-on aspects of manufacturing equipment and processes related to new product and process development, new equipment and process industrialization, equipment design, procurement, deployment, commissioning, and startup.
Key Responsibilities
- Detail and document designs via models/drawings (INVENTOR)
- Participate with other team members in generating and executing designs, project plans, estimates and schedules.
- Interact with internal and external suppliers to procure, deliver, and implement hardware and equipment.
- Generate and help manage drawings used to build equipment.
- Specify and procure mechanical equipment from outside vendors.
- Interact with machine shops to manage quotation, procurement and build of components.
- Setup, testing and debug of electromechanical systems. Optimization of same.
- Participate in project design and objective setting activities.
- Develop plans & schedules for implementing project objectives.
- Schedule and coordinate plant & outside trades support as required for equipment installation.
- Help plan & coordinate as well as participate in equipment/process startup & debug.
- Develop written documentation for equipment and procedures developed to support the project objectives.
- Interact with Drafting and PIMS organizations to ensure compliance with documentation requirements and standards.
- Help plan and participate in the training of personnel and production associates receiving equipment & process deployed by the project.
Travel:
- Project deployments are expected to be sited in the Wilmington, NC plant. As such, expected travel would be <10% domestic, with some international possible, largely in project design and initiation phases.
Experiences/Education - Required
- 2+ years of manufacturing or design experience (manufacturing or technical environment)
Experiences/Education - Desired
- 2-year degree
- Mechanical part detailing experience
- Autodesk INVENTOR, 3-D CAD experience
- Windows Office Suite
- Strong technical/mechanical understanding
- Mechanical Equipment - Design, procurement, Installation & Debug of manufacturing equipment

The range for this position is $62,335.00 - $85,711.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
