Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 

Scope of Position:
Drive implementation of our digital and automation strategy across multiple manufacturing plants.  This position will lead or participate in delivering transformative cost reduction across our division while improving quality and process capability.  An ideal candidate will be capable of learning and implementing the latest vision, digital and automation technology and concepts and work with the operation, supply chain and finance organization to deploy projects in manufacturing.


Key Responsibilities:  
•    Designing and implementing systems to collect and process data from various sources.
•    Combining data from different sources to provide a unified view.
•    Ensuring data systems operate efficiently and can handle large-scale data processing.
•    Working with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to ensure data requirements are met
•    Work with process subject matter experts and apply process data analysis skills to gain fundamental understanding of manufacturing processes.
•    Work closely with experienced professionals in multi-disciplined teams to design, develop and implement solutions for manufacturing processes.
•    Utilize statistical analysis to design process capability.
•    Leverage optimization techniques to improve process performance and efficiency.
•    Document results in technical reports. Generate intellectual property through invention disclosures and patent applications.


Required Education/Qualifications:  
•    BS/MS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or Electrical Engineering
•    Minimum 0-2 years  experience in manufacturing preferred.


Travel Requirements:  
•    Domestic travel up to 25%.


Work Schedule:  
•    Typically, 40 hours /week but could be more depending on project requirements.
•    Night and/or weekend work is possible.


Required Skills:  
•    Technically curious.  
•    Programming experience in Python, or C/C++ or C#
•    Experience in statistical analysis methods 
•    Ability to work in a manufacturing environment.
•    Strong process-oriented mindset, be able to understand process dynamics and design appropriate control schemes.
•    Strong verbal and written skills, able to prepare and present proposals effectively.
•    Functions well on projects and team initiatives as well as independent assignments.  Results-oriented individual with a track record of meeting commitments and managing time well.
•    Flexibility to adapt to changing environment; be a change agent to help others through change.


Desired Skills:  
•    Experience in practical application of process control, including process data analysis and system modeling/identification
•    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
•    Proficiency in Microsoft Power-Automate or MS Studio Agent Builder.
•    Machine vision experience including algorithm development, coding, and use of industrial cameras/vision.
•    Familiarity with concepts of big data engineering, ETL and ELT pipelines for data warehousing, on-premise and cloud data lake environments
•    Familiarity with tools such as Databricks and AWS platform services. 
•    Six Sigma/DMAIC experience.

The range for this position is $69,038.00 - $94,928.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
