Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Scope of Position: Maintenance Technician in plant facilities organization to support the plant facilities equipment, process, and operations.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Be a subject matter expert on plant facilities equipment, process, and operations for chillers, compressed air, cooling towers, HVAC, potable water treatment and associated control systems.

• Works as part of a project team to support repair and maintenance of manufacturing process equipment.

• Serves as technical expert in specialty area.

• Leads mechanical and electrical trades resources on repairs, renovations, and maintenance of facility buildings and equipment.

• Plan, schedule, and direct trades resources using computerized work order system.

• Coordinates activities to design-in safety (FMEA, Hazop, JSA, etc.)

• Troubleshoots process and equipment issues.

• Create and update documents such as machine specs, drawings, Standard Operating Procedures.

• Provide off-hours on-call support on a rotating basis

 

Required Education and Experience:

• Associates Degree in technical field or strong Math/Science background and experience.

• 2-year technical degree and >2 years’ experience OR

• 8+ experience in a manufacturing or technical environment

• Electrical background and qualification.

• Mechanical aptitude.

• Other technician and/or operator roles that lead to a better understanding of the equipment and processes. • Reads blueprints and/or technical drawings.

 

Required Skills: • Strong safety awareness • Demonstrates strong technical curiosity • Demonstrated ability to apply academic and experiential technical knowledge to solve problems. • Has strong approach to problem solving and troubleshooting.

 

Desired Skills:

• Experience in instrumentation, electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting and repair.

• Project Management skills.

• People Management experience.

 

Soft Skills: • Displays interest and drive to understand problems at first-principles level of understanding • Seeks education and mentoring in unfamiliar technologies • Willingness and ability to learn new skills and knowledge. • Demonstrated track record in safety compliance and awareness of environmental issues • Uses expertise of others to help solve problems.

 

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: • 40 hours/week

 

Travel Requirements: • Approximately 5% or less.
