Corning’s Advanced Manufacturing Technology group (AMT) is focused on aspects of manufacturing equipment across the following areas: Development / Design, Industrialization, Procurement, Deployment, Commissioning, and Startup. This position is in the Fiber Capital Programs (FCP) department within the Advanced Manufacturing Technology group (AMT) and is focused on equipment deployment, commissioning, and startup. The position is for a Process Technician position to be a member of a project team and provide project leadership in the upgrading, building, installation, commissioning, and startup of Corning Optical Communications manufacturing systems in the optical fiber and cable division. This position will be responsible for leading Capital Projects to expand the capacity and capability of Global OFC Manufacturing Facilities.

 

 Envir./Health and Safety Technician III Role Summary

Promote an environmentally safe and healthy work environment across the manufacturing facility and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations. Support implementation of safety and environmental systems, deliver training in conjunction with site safety leadership, and analyze key performance metrics to facilitate Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) programs and policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and safety/environmental regulatory codes.
  • Reinforce safety culture in line with Corporate GSS014 Contractor Safety Standard at every job site.
  • Assist in developing and implementing systems to ensure compliance with all Safety and Health regulations.
  • Conduct or assist with training, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), fall protection, and contractor safety orientations for new hires.
  • Collaborate with Engineering/Maintenance to design and implement safety devices or work practices for new processes and equipment.
  • Partner with Team Leaders/Section Supervisors/Managers to perform Job Safety Analyses (JSA) and implement required changes to operating procedures.
  • Assist with Environmental & Safety audits, action plans, and follow-up.
  • Lead daily tool box talks with contract trades organization.

 

Required Education/Skills: Process

  • 10+  years of experience in an Environmental Health & Safety role.
  • 2-year technical degree or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office for data collection and display.
  • Understanding of ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Management System.
  • Demonstrated drive and commitment to creating and maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Corning experience.
  • Ability to comprehend, analyze, and solve complex problems.

Travel Requirements

  • Typical travel can range from a few days to a few weeks during the project initiation phase. During the deployment phase of the project, travel may be full-time.
  • Planning, Development and/or Deployment phases typically range from 3-9 months but can extend to 1+ years.
  • Travel will be required to Corning Optical Fiber and Cable Manufacturing sites in North Carolina (Concord, Winston-Salem, Hickory, Newton, and Wilmington) and overseas sites in India, China, and Europe.

Hours of Work / Work Schedule / Flex-Time

  • 40 hours+ M-F, adjusted hours and weekends may be required based on where the project is in the project life cycle.
  • Overtime is not uncommon and is indeed expected at times, however the amount and duration will vary as a function of the job position, particular project, and point in the project life cycle.

The range for this position is $69,536.00 - $95,612.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
