Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Scope of Position: Provide manufacturing support for optical waveguide manufacturing core process as well as manage cost reduction, safety, quality and capacity projects. Engineering Technician to have the ability to troubleshoot mechanical or electrical and process problems, design new equipment and manage manufacturing processes and projects (cost reduction, safety, etc.).


Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Production support for any throughput or safety items that may be hindering output.
  • Resolution to ongoing chronic issues that require process monitoring and data analysis to implement robust solutions.
  • Manage multiple projects utilizing sound engineering principles to drive completion.
  • Plan and coordinate technical design and engineering implementation of work.
  • Works closely with development groups to support new product development.
  • Provide detailed documentation at the completion of projects.
  • Works with Product Engineering to manage product attributes and “tune” equipment


Travel Requirements:

  • 0 - 5% Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:
  • Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. This position requires off-hours coverage on nights and weekends on a rotating basis with co-workers.


Required Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s degree in a technical field (Mechanical technology, Electrical technology, Industrial technology, etc.) with a minimum of 10 to a maximum of 15 years working experience, or >15 years direct experience in a technical field with proven track of increasing technical responsibilities.
  • Demonstrates experience managing trades (internal and external vendor) activities on large equipment installations (see Required Skills)


Required Skills:

  • 2D and/or 3D Design experience (i.e. Autodesk, Inventor, Solidworks or like software packages).
  • Deep knowledge and interpretation of fundamental technical plans, blueprints, drawings, diagrams, and models.
  • Advanced knowledge on mechanical and/or electrical troubleshooting. Resume must provide details regarding preferred subject matter experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of machines, equipment and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, measurement systems, and maintenance.
  • Project management experience, including developing project scope, budgets and work schedules with examples of impact on large projects (> $1M in capital). Experience should include details on risk management strategies and ability to communicate to leadership teams.
  • Time management and organization skills; ability to manage multiple priorities based on business needs.
  • Demonstrates advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Access, PowerPoint and Excel to analyze data and report.
  • Technical Curiosity: Displays interest and drive to understand technical problems.
