Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Scope of Position:

 

Corning’s Advanced Manufacturing Technology organization (AMT) is focused on aspects of manufacturing equipment across the following areas – design/development, industrialization, procurement, deployment, and startup.  This role is in the Fiber Capital Programs (FCP) department within the Advanced Manufacturing Technology group (AMT) and is centered around capital equipment acquisition and delivery logistics. The position is for an Equipment Acquisition Lead to manage the acquisition of equipment that will be installed by FCP deployment teams.

 

Day-to-day Responsibilities:

  • Lead equipment acquisition efforts for different scale projects for manufacturing equipment upgrades and brown/green-field installations.
  • Establish equipment specifications and requirements (configuration, quantity, etc.).
  • Provide technical support for Global Supply Management and equipment vendors throughout the competitive bid process (vendor identification, RFQ, vendor selection) then support resolution of issues during the equipment build process.
  • Generate timeline for equipment delivery and incorporate into integrated schedule.
  • Participate in deployment team planning activities.
  • Engage with other AMT groups - Capital Deployment Project Teams, Development, Technology Platforms, and Cable Technology.
  • Lead a multi-disciplinary team consisting of logistics, equipment, and procurement Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in support of multiple, concurrent capital projects.
  • Coordinate factory acceptance testing (FAT)

 

Travel Requirements:

  • Periodic (<20%) travel to vendor sites and project locations (domestic and international).
  • Home office is onsite in Wilmington office.

 

Hours of work/work schedule/flextime:

  • 40hrs+ M-F, adjusted hours and weekends may be required based on where the project is in the project life cycle.
  • Overtime is not uncommon and is indeed expected at times, however the amount and duration will vary as a function of the job position, particular project, and point in the project life cycle.

 

Required Education & Experience:

  • BS in Engineering, Project Management, or Supply Chain Management

or

  • Associate degree with 5 years of capital projects/acquisition experience 

or

  • 7+ years applicable Corning capital projects/acquisition experience

 

 

Additional Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience on capital projects
  • Familiarity with Glassmaking and/or Draw/Downstream manufacturing equipment and processes
  • Communicating and presenting to leadership
  • Collaborating with resources from other disciplines and organizations
  • Familiarity with capital purchasing process
  • Working with external vendors

 

Required Skills:

  • MS Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Navigational ability in AutoCAD®, Vault, Inventor (or similar competitive design software)
  • Read/understand technical drawings
  • Reading/writing technical specifications
  • Self-starter, able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Organizational aptitude (focused, effective, and efficiency-driven)
  • Using a process-oriented approach with drive for continuous improvement
  • Proactive problem solving – resolve challenges quickly
  • Able to manage multiple tasks/projects concurrently
  • Customer service oriented (good communication, motivation, positivity, etc.)

 

Desired Skills:

  • Project leadership (budgeting, scheduling, executing)
  • Displays a bias for action in situations of uncertainty, addresses issues and problems proactively.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills.
  • Project leadership experience, including developing project scope, budgets, and schedules.
  • Electro/mechanical technical understanding
  • MS Project scheduling software

The range for this position is  $79,584.00   -  $109,428.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
