Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

MET (Manufacturing Excellence Team) Responsibilities:

  • Maintain Fiber making production equipment focused on forming and coating processes of optical fiber manufacturing.
  • Expert-level troubleshooting following shift personnel efforts
  • Proactively monitor equipment and processes, identify outliers and trends, and drive opportunities to fundamental resolution
  • Make process/equipment/procedure adjustments
  • Manufacturing process and equipment improvement identification and solutions
  • Identification and leadership of R&M and S&E cost reduction initiatives
  • Collaboration with engineering and technology for process/equipment receivership.

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Function as process and equipment SMEs for the Fibermaking department with primary focus on the forming and coating process steps.
  • Trend analysis (by equipment, attribute, product) & monitoring / response plans
  • Recommend improvements to process/equipment and drive equipment robustness
  • Identify chronic issues and recommend corrective actions
  • Provide inputs about equipment maintenance requirements & shortfalls
  • Provide guidance, direction, and training to department and support personnel
  • Identify and drive cost reduction initiatives utilizing fundamental understanding of process capability and parts usage
  • Engineering support and troubleshooting of optical fiber manufacturing equipment and processes
  • Perform cost-benefit analyses to generate buy-in and support for fundamental solution paths
  • Concise and accurate documentation on troubleshooting steps and corrective actions
  • Manufacturing improvement corrective action plans and solutions
  • Analysis of data, design, and execution of experiments
  • Work in a team to drive equipment/process standardization and continuous improvements
  • Interface with Engineering, Infrastructure/Maintenance, IT, PPD and Trades
  • Work with Operations team including section & shift supervision, and associates as required to improve manufacturing performance
  • Technology (process/product) receivership within the community

 

 

Education/Experience:

  • At least a two-year degree in a technical field with minimum of 2 yrs experience in manufacturing OR minimum of 10 yrs experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Technical troubleshooting on electrical systems, mechanical systems, manufacturing processes, control systems and PLCs

 

Required Skills:

  • Strong problem analysis and troubleshooting skills
  • Electrical technical skills and aptitude including electrical handheld instrumentation
  • Inherent drive to improve performance and reduce cost utilizing out-of-the-box thinking
  • Ability to read/understand electrical and mechanical drawings
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and issues effectively
  • Ability to propose priority calls based on cost-benefit data analysis
  • Self-motivated and autonomous
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work within a team and provide training to others

 

Travel Requirements: • Domestic: <5%

 

Schedule:

  • Monday - Friday
  • Availability for off-hours on-call support and ability to work non-traditional hours
