Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Purpose of the Position: Engineering support for Facilities, Pollution Abatement, and Raw Material production areas.


Day to Day Responsibilities:
•    Serve as Facilities Mechanical SME for Chiller Water and HVAC systems, High Pressure compressors, Fire Pumps, Potable Water and Vacuum systems to minimize equipment down time and process interruptions and maintain regulatory and environmental compliance.
•    Supervise maintenance trades for day to day activities such as troubleshooting, PMs, cost reduction, etc.
•    Provide engineering support & project management for design, troubleshooting, documentation, and implementation of new or modified equipment.
•    Support facilities projects and supervise trades/contractors in the construction, testing, installation, and debugging of equipment.
•    Direct contractors in the construction, testing, installation, and debugging of equipment.
•    Spec out and formulate tests or experiments for prototype equipment.
•    Interface with vendors to ensure that adequate supplies and services are provided for pollution abatement equipment.
•    As needed, develop, document, and deliver training packages for new or modified equipment to operations and support groups.
•    Understand and audit for equipment safety and personnel safety.
•    Coordinates activities to design-in safety (FMEA, Hazop, JSA, etc.).
•    Provide off-hours on-call support on a rotating basis.


Education & Experience:
•    Bachelor of Science in Technical Field; Mechanical or Electrical (strongly preferred Mechanical)
•    2 or more years engineering and/or manufacturing experience.


Required Skills:
•    Strong fundamental knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts
•    Mechanical; Troubleshooting and previous hands on experience
•    Experience with at least one of the following: Chillers, Compressors or HVACs.
•    Ability to handle/prioritize multiple tasks as necessary
•    Ability to estimate scope & timeline requirements for technical work


Desired Skills:
•    Understanding of and experience with HVAC, Compressors, Chiller systems 
•    Basic understanding on PLCs and PLC programming
•    Proficiency in CAD and reading mechanical/electrical schematics
•    Electrical aptitude and exposure 
•    Understanding TPM, Six Sigma, & Lean manufacturing methodologies Other Information


Travel Requirements: (National/International; 0-100%) <5%


Hours of work: 8-5 Mon-Fri; rotating on-call responsibilities as well
