Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

 

This Glassmaking Department Head position will be responsible for leading Capital Projects in the Glassmaking to expand the capacity and capability of Global OFC Manufacturing Facilities.   

  • Primary component of the scope will be upgrading and installing optical fiber Glassmaking manufacturing equipment complimentary components include facility and process services in addition to IT, Quality and Operational systems.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Projects will primarily focus on Optical Fiber sites in North America or International locations.
  • Oversee multiple projects typically exceeding $10M, involving multi-disciplined direct reports and matrixed resources.
  • Partner with OFC Technology Development teams to define and deliver required technologies.
  • Utilize Corning’s Capital Management System (Capricorn) for project scope development and execution.
  • Responsibilities include managing project teams, defining resource needs, interacting with leadership, and executing projects using the Capricorn process.
  • Travel to project sites as needed during definition and execution phases, with potential deployments lasting 3-12+ months.
  • Ensure communication with stakeholders, manage project deliverables, schedules, and budgets, reporting to the Manager of AMT Fiber Capital Programs.

Experiences/Education - Required

 

  • BS or MS in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or Chemical Engineering OR combination of a technical degree (design, electrical, mechanical, chemical, industrial)
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in leadership and/or management roles for capital manufacturing equipment projects or similar manufacturing engineering leadership experience
  • Experience working with project teams in design and troubleshooting activities
  • Experience with equipment, construction and manufacturing costs
  • Experience managing project budgets and developing project business cases
  • Experience guiding teams toward consensus and informed decision-making
  • Willing to deploy to project sites with potential deployments lasting 3-12+ months

 

Experiences/Education - Desired

 

  • Optical Fiber manufacturing experience – can be in development, engineering, or operations
  • Project Management Professional certification
  • Technical or Manufacturing leadership experience
  • Manufacturing Equipment design and development experience

The range for this position is $155,994.00 - $214,493.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
