The global Information Technology (IT) Function is leading efforts to align IT and Business Strategy, leverage IT investments, and optimize end to end business processes and associated information integration technologies.  Through these efforts, IT helps to improve the competitive position of Corning's businesses through IT enabled processes.  IT also delivers Information Technology applications, infrastructure, and project services in a cost efficient manner to Corning worldwide.


Scope of Position:

  • Design, development, and/or integration of IT systems within and across DIMS ISA-95 layered architectural components (Controls/SCADA/MES/Information Delivery).
  • Develop fundamental understanding of manufacturing processes needed to complete key project deliverables in the area of optical fiber manufacturing or development.
  • Follow scientific methods (ex. DOE) supported by testing, data collection, and analysis to determine optimal solutions.
  • Partake in initiatives supporting OFC’s Digital Transformation / MFG 4.0 roadmap.
  • Gain exposure to solution development life cycle (Planning, Design, Development, Testing, Implementation, Communications).
  • Present retrospective of time spent with Corning at the end of the internship.



  • While participating in a team environment, take ownership of key project objectives critical to Corning’s success.
  • Interface with various engineering and operations groups to understand potential impact of equipment and process changes. Ensure communication is established to address concerns and obtain assistance/buy-in.
  • Review performance data on new processes/findings and effectively draw conclusions.
  • Communicate effectively to personnel at various levels up to and including plant staff.


Education and Experience:

  • Enrolled in BS/MS ME, EE/Controls, CSC, CE, MIS in progress program
  • GPA of 3.2 or above
