The global Information Technology (IT) Function is leading efforts to align IT and Business Strategy, leverage IT investments, and optimize end to end business processes and associated information integration technologies.  Through these efforts, IT helps to improve the competitive position of Corning's businesses through IT enabled processes.  IT also delivers Information Technology applications, infrastructure, and project services in a cost efficient manner to Corning worldwide.

Role Purpose

The person in this position will join a team of highly motivated and skilled engineers and technicians to manage, modify, and develop MES systems required to manufacture optical fiber and the associated computer systems to support manufacturing. This person will also participate in or occasionally lead projects to meet the plant’s objectives or drive cost reduction efforts.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Duties will primarily revolve around building software by writing and modifying code to fix errors, adapt it to software requirements, improve its performance, or upgrade interfaces, as well as working on technical issues, such as software system design and maintenance.
  • Assist team of engineers to provide production support and troubleshooting for the Wilmington manufacturing operation. Work with production associates, technicians, and engineers to ensure reliable manufacturing operation via automated systems and user interfaces.
  • Support process and product optimization/improvement efforts.
  • Provide training for engineers and/or production associates as needed for new processes.
  • Participate in capital projects.
  • Directing system testing and validation procedures.
  • Directing software programming and documentation development.
  • Consulting with departments or customers on project status and proposals.
  • Working with customers or departments on technical issues including software system design and maintenance.
  • Analyzing information to recommend and plan the installation of new systems or modifications of an existing system.
  • Consulting with engineering staff to evaluate software-hardware interfaces and develop specifications and performance requirements.
  • Designing and developing software systems using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcomes and design consequences.
  • Preparing reports on programming project specifications, activities, or status.
  • Conferring with project managers to obtain information on limitations or capabilities.
  • Some after hours, on-call support may be needed.

 

Experiences/Education - Required

 

  • Bachelor’s in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or Electrical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of combined experience in IT, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of MES (Manufacturing Execution System) System – Camstar
  • .NET Developer (Visual Studio, ASP.NET, VB.NET, C#, SQL Server, MVC, SSIS).  Developer shall be responsible for developing web-based applications in .NET SQL environment.
  • Kendo/Telerik and experience with Javascript and jQuery.
  • Experience with message queues like MSMQ, RabbitMQ, and/or Amazon SQS.
  • Testing tools like xUnit, NUnit, or MSTest.
  • .NET with SQL Server for data management and Active Directory for identity management, following Department standards.
  • Back-end development skills and knowledge of relational databases (Oracle and/or Microsoft SQL Server).
  • Willing to be on off-hours call on a rotational basis in a 24x7 manufacturing environment

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Experienced working with IT systems in a 24/7 manufacturing plant environment
  • Experience in Camstar Enterprise Suite Designer Modelling Web Portal & System Admin Tools
  • Experience with VBA/VB6 for converting legacy applications to .NET

The range for this position is $91,182.00 - $125,376.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
