Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

Champion expertise in equipment and processes by leading troubleshooting efforts, driving improvements and cost-saving projects, and coordinating with engineering for the efficient startup of new equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of the work area by conducting daily audits for safety, quality, and setup
  • Serve as the second point of contact for advanced troubleshooting of electrical, controls, mechanical, and equipment issues, prioritizing based on plant and department priorities
  • Monitor area performance, identify and resolve equipment/process issues, and implement improvements to enhance performance
  • Identify and implement cost-saving measures through breakdown elimination, production data analysis, and operational observations
  • Maintain equipment documentation, including preventive maintenance, lockout/tagout checklists, visual work instructions, and troubleshooting guides
  • Participate in onboarding and training for operators and technicians on equipment operation, adjustments, startup/shutdown procedures, and troubleshooting
  • Assist in developing training materials with engineering support for new processes/equipment and procedural changes
  • Coordinate with operators, technicians, engineers, and trades for equipment startup, repair, troubleshooting, and process changes
  • Oversee and direct tradespeople on repairs and support preventive maintenance activities
  • Support 24/7 manufacturing operations with a rotating off-hours on-call assignment

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Associate degree (electrical, mechanical, or controls technology preferred) OR high school diploma with 3+ years of manufacturing experience
  • Proficient in troubleshooting and repairing electrical, pneumatic, controls, and mechanical devices using test equipment, I/O indications, and sound technical judgement
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to train others effectively
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office for file management, editing, saving, transferring, emailing, downloading, and data graphing

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Basic understanding of PLC programming and logic for troubleshooting
  • Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical drawings for troubleshooting
  • Skilled in data analysis and reporting using Excel, Pi, JMP, PowerBi, and PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with FANUC robot programming and troubleshooting
  • Experience in Markem Imaje inkjet maintenance and troubleshooting

The range for this position is $57,899.00 - $79,612.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
