Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.


Scope of Position:

The Administrative Assistant will support 4 OFC Technology Managers and 150 team members in the Wilmington, NC Optical Fiber facility. He/She will actively manage calendars, make travel arrangements, and organize events for the Managers and provide general management of the office area and several conference rooms, including managing seating charts, ensuring offices and systems are available for new hires, and ensuring office supplies are maintained. He/She will provide Back-up support for WL Plant Manager admin as required and will assist the Wilmington plant administrative team with site-wide events.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing calendars for Managers, including scheduling and modifying meetings
  • Scheduling travel for Managers, including determining suitable domestic & international flight and hotel options.
  • Understanding and assist all team members with the International Visa application process
  • Maintaining seating charts and managing the office set-up logistics for new and departing employees. o Organizing and planning department level events including scheduling employees, securing appropriate conference rooms and external venues, and arranging catering.
  • Maintaining office supplies.


Required Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED Required. Advanced Degree preferred. 
  • 15+ years administrative experience for managerial and individual contributor level employees.
  • Proficient with PC’s and software tools: Outlook, Powerpoint, Word, Excel, BOX, Sharepoint
  • Self starter with excellent prioritization skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to build an extensive network within the Technology and OFC organization.
  • Adapt quickly to changing and high priority requests.


Desired Experienced: 

  • Corning Incorporated experience – for familiarity with Corning Specific software applications
  • Experience supporting highly technical individuals and teams.
  • Experience with International travel and Visa applications

Hours of work:

  • 40 hours
  • Occasional off-hours is needed for emergency travel support or team building/recognition events.
