Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Drive early identification of vulnerabilities or quality issues during New Product Introduction (NPI), assigns ownership, and ensure implementation of actions. Ensure NPIs use quality systems.
  • Evaluate the impact of product, process and equipment changes on product attributes and quality architectures. Ensure new processes are capable. Drive for resolution of quality issues.
  • Collaborate with Division Engineering, Product Line Management, and Technology to determine best manufacturing options balancing quality, cost, capacity, and timing.
  • Lead projects to implement quality improvements and cost of quality savings.
  • Develop and implement controls to ensure product integrity and on-going performance.
  • Coordinate process improvements to ensure PCPD is built into products and culture.
  • Coordinate with Product Engineering and Product Line Managers to review changes to product specifications.
  • As applicable, supervise, train and coach employees on quality systems and NPI.
  • Support Capricorn process for new products and processes.
  • Lead quality improvements for fiber & cable systems globally.
  • Design new and improve existing quality architecture systems (QA).
  • Perform specification and guardband/risk analysis for standard products and special customer requests.
  • Lead Worldwide quality deployments and customer issue resolutions.
  • Ensure Proactive Sustainable Solutions vs. reactive responses to issues. Support plant quality organizations on determining root cause for quality concerns.
  • Drive OFC Quality System continuous improvement by creating and executing the global strategy.
  • Review and, as required, lead root cause analysis on products and processes not meeting specified standards and requirements
  • Hold/ evaluate/release ware produced under non-standard conditions.
  • Design and execute experiments, analyze results, and determine course of actions.

 

Education & Experience:

  • BS in Engineering
  • 5+ years in process or quality engineering

 

Required Skills:

  • Strong data collection and analysis skills; understanding of statistics and control charts.
  • Sounds decision making skills. Makes decisions based on data.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and issues effectively.
  • Understanding of PCPD principles and ability to coach others.
  • Effective Project Management

  • Work in technical projects teams in leadership and subordinate roles.

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of manufacturing process and product attributes for types of cables.
  • Experience with various statistical packages like SAS and Minitab
  • Six Sigma Black or Green Belt or DMAIC project experience.

Hours of work/work schedule/flextime: 40 hrs., additional hours/weekends when needed to support project work/ quality issue resolution

 

Travel Requirements: 10% - 25%, Majority will be travel in the US but may occasionally be international travel.
