Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Purpose of the Position:

Develop and execute North America’s logistics strategies and lead operational activities to manage freight, warehousing, distribution, trade compliance and all associated costs to meet Corning Optical Fiber & Cable (OFC) business needs. Aligns to global OFC logistics strategies, objectives and reporting for process performance and improvement within the America’s region. Supports each regional plant in the management of all logistics functions and 3rd party service providers to deliver optimal business value and results. Works closely with Global Supply Management for resource allocation, support and governance of contracts, trade compliance and other ad hoc requests.



• Collaborate with NA Plant Supply Chain Managers to establish, manage and continuously improve the logistics network to meet business needs

• Leverage the resources and assets of the GSM organization to drive optimal results for Corning

• In collaboration with Corporate Global Logistics, manage the 3rd party logistics relationships, services, performance, and governance required to meet business needs

• Create alignment and synergy with regional Commercial, PLM and Planning organizations to ensure logistics requirements are understood and networks established and maintained to deliver on customer requirements

• Understand forecasted volume and modify/optimize the logistics network to meet those forecast requirements and any associated changes

• Develop and implement capacity planning and modeling solutions for warehousing and distribution

• Manage off-site warehouse solutions, performance and all associated costs

• Work with Plant Supply Chain Managers, Controllers and Global OFC Logistics leaders to establish, manage and report on plant and regional logistics spend and cost savings initiatives

• Develop strong communication & collaboration with all plant finance partners for month end closing logistics spend accounting

• In conjunction with Global OFC Logistics, understand and manage a total cost of fulfillment model for the NA Region; drive improvements where needed

• Collaborate with Corporate Global Logistics and Global OFC Logistics leaders to ensure cost reduction (CR) budgets and reporting align with business CR initiatives for consistency in financial reporting and results

• Provide functional logistics SME support and leadership for NA plants with high focus on logistics safety initiatives

• Govern and audit SOPs to manage and control logistics operations. Share and implement best practices within and across regions

• Develop and maintain strong linkage to Corporate Trade Compliance to ensure NA regional trade compliance

• Meet the strategic needs of the Business as measured in logistics cost, quality, service & culture

• Work with Corporate and Regional Security to ensure high level of Supply Chain Security: oversee overall freight damage and loss/claims process, work with corporate global logistics to develop data driven approach for measuring supplier performance


Travel Requirements:

This position involves 25% domestic travel to regional plants


Hours of work/work schedule/flextime:

8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, additional time as required by projects


Required Education:

Bachelor's degree (engineer, business or supply chain)


Required Years and Area of Experience:

• Minimum 8 years’ experience in manufacturing - operations, planning, quality, engineering, supply chain

• Minimum of 2 years’ experience within transportation (freight)/logistics, procurement and supply chain processes and systems

• Proven leadership skills

• Experience working in a matrix environment or on a cross functional team

• Experience in working with and managing third party logistics service providers

• Willingness to travel within region
