Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 

Scope of Position

The internship will consist of production support activities in a specific process area along with a involvement on a few key projects.

 

Objectives for the production support and projects will be clearly laid out, and the work will be in a team environment of engineers, technicians, and operators.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with support groups and production teams to coordinate and direct equipment installations, start-up, repair, troubleshooting, and process changes.
  • Support Preventive Maintenance activities.
  • Provide first, second, and third level troubleshooting of equipment/process issues.
  • Provide technical training for associates.
  • Recommend improvements to process/equipment and drive equipment robustness
  • Identify chronic issues and recommend corrective actions
  • Work in a team to drive equipment/process standardization and continuous improvements

Experiences/Education - Required

Currently enrolled in 2nd year at a Community College in one of the following four programs:

  • Mechatronics Engineering
  • Electronics Engineering
  • Electrical Systems
  • Mechanical Engineering

 

Required Skills

  • Ability to build relationships, work in teams and interact with all levels of the organization
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Results-oriented
  • Technical curiosity and capability in discipline

 

Hours of work / work schedule / flex-time

  • Basic work hours are 20 to 40hrs/week;
  • 8am-5pm; additional hours/weekends when needed to meet project objectives

​The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly.  Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
