Scope of Position:

  • Supports the plant HR manager to ensure that the Wilmington plant has the right talent to execute the plant’s strategy and achieve desired business results.
  • Ensures that the plant establishes and maintains a positive work environment and operates as “One Corning” in support of Corning values.
  • Assists in achieving or beating budgetary objectives in support of top quartile performance objectives while maintaining appropriate level of HR service delivery.
  • Assists in successful implantation of global HR business processes in the plant.
  • Ensures plant compliance with HR-related legal and regulatory guidelines.
  • Leads the plants Learning and Development initiatives to drive employee development for both the hourly and salaried workforce.

Day to Day Responsibilities: The successful candidate will partner with the Wilmington HR Team and Plant Leadership to align HR objectives and initiatives to the business strategy including leading the Learning and Development programs for the plant. Responsibilities will include, but not limited to: Oversight for all Learning and Development programs including employee, compliance, technical, operations, function and management development. This includes the planning, organizing and implementation of a range of training activities.

  • Effectively manage the hiring process for all hourly and temporary employees.
  • Takes ownership for specific HR initiatives that support the effective operations of the organization by developing and or delivering HR programs (e.g. attendance tracking, training, employee communications).
  • Partner with the Medical department to manage all workers compensation cases, EAP case management, FMLA and Disability as required for procedural and legislative purposes.
  • Identifies employee value proposition issues affecting turnover and works with Plant HR Manager to identify action for improvement (e.g. employee climate survey, positive employee relations initiatives, affinity group facilitation).
  • Establish and maintain a presence on the plant floor to keep a read on the pulse of the organization.

Travel Requirements/Work Schedule:

  • Minimal, < 5% Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:
  • Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, additional time as required, project requirements

Required Education and Experience:

  • At least 3+ years of HR experience (generalist/specialist).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business, Labor Relations or equivalent.
  • Master’s degree in related area and/or HR certifications desired.
  • Hands-on self-starter, capable of juggling multiple priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills, allowing for communication across entire organization.
  • Demonstrated leadership and coaching skills.
  • Ability to foster change and promote and implement improvement.
  • Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, Power Point, Internet).
  • Successful track record of performance working in Union Manufacturing environment.
  • Successful track record of performance as a Plant HR Specialist, Generalist or Center of Excellence (COE) role.
  • First line supervision/experience
  • Applied Six Sigma, Lean or Kaizen experience.
  • Successful track record in the deployment of global HR business processes or programs.

Desired:

  • Experience developing individual and organizational level training plans
