Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 

Purpose of the Position:

In this role, you will be reporting directly to the WL Plant Quality Manager. The scope of this role is to strengthen the Product Quality Systems and Architecture within the organization by driving fundamental understanding and continual improvements that positively influence the Quality Management System and Cost of Quality. Apply knowledge of engineering principles and practices to effectively accomplish technical assignments and mitigate risks associated with process, product, and equipment changes. Make decisions independently based upon sound engineering and scientific methods. We look for you to work closely with other functions within the organization (Engineering, Operations, Technology, IT, and Supply Chain) and be responsible for the processes for specific product lines.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Knowledge and application of ISO Quality Standards.
  • Facilitates efforts in understanding processes, capability and product quality architecture. Designs new and improves existing quality architecture systems and for new products.
  • Evaluates the impact of product, process and equipment changes on product attributes and quality architectures including capability assessments.
  • Facilitates root cause analysis on products and processes not meeting specified requirements.
  • Works with manufacturing and engineering on completing sustainable solutions which are compliant with our quality system and customer agreements.
  • Analyze data to develop and implement internal specifications.
  • Participate as a Quality Representative on New Product / New Equipment Teams to ensure all new products and processes meet Quality Requirements.
  • Make updates/changes to plant Quality Systems as needed to accommodate new products and processes.
  • Understand internal and external customers’ stated and implied needs as well as ensuring their expectations are met every time by monitoring, maintaining, supporting and continuously improving plant quality systems.
  • Drives and/or leads efforts for continuous improvement in Quality, manufacturing and cost reduction for the site.
  • Optimize sampling plans and sampling methods for QC and manufacturing.
  • Provides training to employees, as needed (Quality systems, new procedures, technical training, etc.).

 

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Minimum 2 years’ quality engineering or manufacturing/process engineering experience in related industry/field.

 

Required Skills:

  • Previous Quality Engineering or Manufacturing/Process experience in a manufacturing or technical function.
  • Demonstrated use of root cause and problem-solving skills to resolve technical issues.
  • Experience with procedure and work instruction development.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with data collection and data analysis software and techniques, including Excel, Minitab, JMP, SPC XL, DOE Pro, Pi, Access, etc.
  • Knowledge or experience with ISO 9001 and/or regulated products.
  • Knowledge of statistical methodology.
  • Ability to articulate risks and influence decisions on product quality.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks at once.
  • Ability to learn and understand multiple areas in the plant in order to prioritize work and resources.
  • Ability to drive to root cause analysis.

 

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with Performance Excellence (Six Sigma) Green Belt or Black Belt.
  • Experience with internal or external auditing.
  • Knowledge of ISO/TL 9000 standards.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in project and personnel management.
  • Product Quality Architecture training/FMEA.

Hours of Work/Schedule/Flex Time:

  • M-F / Typically 8 am - 5 pm/ Overtime support as needed (Supporting a 24/7 facility)

The range for this position is  $74,689.00   -  $102,698.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
