Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
**Multiple Process Development Engineer positions are available in Fiber Technology. This requisition is for openings within the AMT Development and HSDC Development departments. Please specify your preferred department**
The role involves designing, developing, enhancing and industrializing Optical Fiber manufacturing platforms. This includes using scientific methods and engineering principles to deeply understand and solve limitations in manufacturing processes. As a member of a technology development team, you will work towards improving manufacturing yields, process rate, machine utilization, product quality, new product quality, environmental compliance, raw material yield, and energy usage. This role contributes to significant reductions in manufacturing costs and enables the creation of new products with advanced attributes.
Primary Responsibilities
- Translating experimental solutions and understanding into engineering requirements, leading to the development of process and equipment designs that meet performance standards.
- Learn & understand process & equipment functions in area of responsibility.
- Design, develop, and industrialize manufacturing platforms (platform = process + equipment) for existing and revolutionary manufacturing processes. Re-design machine/process systems or sub-systems to solve safety, performance, or quality issues, or reduce either the as-installed or long-term operational costs.
- Provide troubleshooting support to the prototype platform during development and demonstration phase.
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:
The position is overtime exempt. Overtime is not uncommon and is indeed expected at times, however the amount and duration will vary as a function of the job position, particular project, and point in the project life cycle.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in chemical, material, ceramics, mechanical engineering or similar discipline
- Experience with chemical transport and reaction processes
- Working knowledge of physical phenomena (e.g., static and dynamic physics, heat and mass transfer, etc.) with ability to use this knowledge to improve manufacturing processes and product attributes.
- Experience of using scientific method and fundamental engineering principles to solve problems thoroughly and effectively, using well-designed and executed process experiments.
- Drive for root cause fundamental understanding of challenging problems.
- Display a bias for action in situations of uncertainty, with pro-active attention to issues and problems.
- Work well both within a multi-disciplined team, and independently with minimal oversight, and thoroughly carries assignments to completion.

- Master's Degree
- Ability to translate engineering solutions to requirements, then further to process and/or equipment designs which deliver all required and promised performance criteria.
- Effectively use relevant measured and/or modeled data to drive decisions and actions.
- Determine and recommend best solution from a series of alternatives within given guidelines.
- Communicate effectively in various settings to provide and present necessary information to Project, Department, and Site leaders.
- Experience with data processing software (e.g. Jump, Python, PowerBI) and/or Modeling simulation software experience (e.g. Aspen, Matlab, Fluent).
This requisition is for B and C band opportunities in Fiber Technology within AMT Development and HSDC Development departments. Selected internal candidates will be offered at the band that aligns with their skills and experience.

The range for this position is $86,000.00 - $132,550.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
