Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Purpose of the Position: Development Process Technician responsible for working within teams to develop new optical fiber manufacturing processes and/or process conditions for improved product attributes or reduced cost of optical fiber.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Support the design, install, and troubleshooting of development equipment
  • Design, install, and troubleshoot new instrumentation and measurement techniques
  • Assist in running experiments and interpreting results
  • Collaborate with equipment design, processing equipment deployment, and manufacturing receivers during later stages of technology development
  • Provide support for startup of new equipment
  • Provide training and documentation to support transfer of new processes and equipment Projects involved with: Phantom, Horizon IV, Blackbird, and potentially Milano, Swift

 

Education & Experience

  • Two year electrical/mechanical technical degree  
  • No Degree - 10+ years of work experience.

  • Sound decision making and prioritization skills
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the plant organization
  • Strong people skills • Ability to handle/prioritize multiple tasks as necessary
  • Good process and equipment troubleshooting skills
  • Mechanically and Electrically inclined (aptitude for both)
  • Ability to handle/prioritize multiple tasks as necessary
  • Good written and verbal communication skills (detailed oriented)
  • Ability to train effectively

 

Desired Skills

  • Capable of using Diagnostic equipment
  • Basic understanding of PLC
  • PC – Data Analysis (PI, etc.)
  • Electrical test equipment
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD (or similar)

 

Soft Skills

  • Works well in a team environment, is a “self-starter” and “results oriented”.
  • Acts and makes decisions in the best interest of the team.
  • Complies with all policies and procedures of the plant.
  • Works well with other disciplines (IT, mechanical, and process engineering) to fully understand manufacturing system functionality and design requirements.
