Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Scope of Position:

The Project Portfolio Specialist supports our AMT – Fiber Capital Programs teams worldwide. This position supports OFC technology capacity expansions and capital deployments for new technology rollouts including Product, Cost Reduction and Capacity.

Key focus is process management of FCP’s capital projects and resource portfolios. The position will work closely with the other staff and project managers to determine capital and resource needs for their projects. The position will monitor project performance to capital budgets, schedules, resource timing and help resolve issues as they arise.

This position will provide experience and background for future roles in Technology or Project Management.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate and maintain all aspects of AMT/FCPs capital project portfolio.   This includes resource planning, capital forecasting, Planview input requirements, and routine Capricorn/Capital PMO update requirements.  
  • Assist Department Manager with scenario analysis for projects, as needed. 
  • Work closely with staff on determining project needs and determine ways to fill gaps.
  • Manage department recruiting/hiring activities, both direct and contingent, to ensure effective and efficient selection and on-boarding of resources. Work closely with resourcing firms on needs and screen potential candidates.
  • Coordinate the capital management process for the group.  With inputs from the project teams, managing Planview entries, updates, reports, and periodic reviews.
  • Assist project teams in the Capricorn process.
  • Maintain the department budget, identifying and correcting any discrepancies.
  • Supervise administrative resources in the group.
  • Coordinate project scheduling.

 

Travel Requirements: ~ <10% Travel, for durations up to 1 week

 

Education and Experience: Required

  • Bachelors Degree with 3-5 years of experience in Project Management or Leadership
  • Attention to detail and strong data analysis
  • Effective leadership, organization and planning skills with ability to handle changing priorities
  • Knowledge and experience with project planning tools such as MS Project, risk analysis, and KT decision analysis
  • Prooven ability to track material shippments
  • Fianacial understanding to determine forcasting spending.

 

Education and Experience: Desired  

  • Understanding of project management and financial fundamentals
  • Understanding of the Capricorn process. 
  • Experience with Planview
  • Interviewing experience to determine the best candidates for positions
  • Knowledge of the Optical Fiber manufacturing process

The range for this position is $81,750.00 - $112,406.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
