Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Interfaces with Commercial groups, New Product Development teams, Product Engineering, Engineering (plant and division), Manufacturing and Quality organizations to understand customer needs and translate them into meaningful manufacturing specifications and measurement protocols.
  • Ensure that PQA/QA processes are implemented with new products/processes. Verify that plants are adhering to processes.
  • Collaborates with development, engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure quality standards are in place \
  • Evaluate the impact of product, process and equipment changes on product attributes and quality architectures. Update quality architectures as required.
  • Active participant on qualification councils for fiber and/or cable. Ensures new products/processes are meeting qualification requirements.
  • Drives early identification of vulnerabilities or quality issues, assigns ownership, and ensures implementation of actions to ensure improvement.
  • Lead Worldwide quality deployments and customer resolutions.
  • Work with engineering on Proactive Sustainable Solutions vs. reactive responses
  • Support OFC Quality Systems by creating, maintaining, and executing the global strategy
  • Facilitate efforts in understanding processes capability and product quality architecture
  • Facilitate root cause analysis on products and processes not meeting specified standards and requirements
  • Work with engineering on Proactive Sustainable Solutions vs. reactive responses
  • Hold/ evaluate/ release ware produced under non-standard conditions.
  • Perform experimental designs and data analysis.
  • Coordinates and facilitates benchmarking and communication of best practices across the division
  • Instills a Quality oriented culture in which everyone feels ownership for Quality and acts accordingly


Education & Experience:

  • BS in Engineering or equivalent technical degree


Required Skills:

  • Ability to work in technical projects teams in leadership and subordinate roles.
  • Good data collection and analysis skills; basic understanding of statistics and control charts.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and issues effectively.
  • Strong Facilitator. Ability to influence and leadership are different from facilitation.
  • Ability to hold your ground unless proven with data elsewise
  • Good written and verbal communications skills
  • Sounds decision making skills
  • Experience with MS-office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint).
  • Effective in Project Management
  • Structured problem-solving skills to drive to root cause (e.g., KT)
  • Familiarity with Quality Systems, audits, TL and ISO Certifications or other types of Quality certifications
  • Ability to drive projects to closure
  • Ability to work across multiple cultures.


Desired Skills:

  • Experience with customer interaction (applications engineer, customer service, technical rep, etc.)
  • Experience in new product development or new production introduction
  • Experience with various statistical packages like SAS and Minitab
  • Six Sigma Black or Green Belt or DMAIC project experience.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing process and product attributes.
  • Understanding Quality Arch (input and output linkages / interactions)
  • Sound judgment – able to be the conscience of the business
