Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 

Scope of Position:

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Manage shipping office to ensure an efficient and effective operation.
  • Work interactively with OFC stakeholders to ensure inventory and shipping accuracy, minimize shipping backlog and meet customer requirements.
  • Prepare necessary paperwork for outgoing shipments, including pack lists, pro forma invoices, freight calculation and customs documents.
  • Plan, schedule and route inbound and outbound domestic and international shipments of freight, using knowledge of trade compliance regulations, tariffs and company policy.
  • Schedule with carriers, reconcile freight bills, prepare and negotiate claims, and select or recommend carriers to ensure efficient, timely, and least expensive movement of goods and material.
  • Effectively, timely and accurately execute planning outbound shipments with designated carriers with the aim to improve efficiency in the shipping office while meeting customer requirements.
  • Seek supervisory direction for issues crossing into other functional areas or with broad impacts.
  • Work with carriers, Customer Service and Division Transportation support to resolve shipment issues.
  • Manage inventory and order shipping/packing supplies as needed.
  • Work with Customer Service and Planning for order/shipment changes.
  • Support ongoing Safety, Lean and other department/plant wide initiatives.
  • Process orders using PeopleSoft program.
  • Assist Supervisor with order management on the production floor.
  • Execute all filing activities according to Customs and Corning Policies.
  • Understand and apply warehouse office procedures and controls in accordance with company policy.
  • Assist Supervisor with overtime, call-ins and maintaining OT records for the department as necessary.
  • Work with OM Manager by submitting shipments daily into the booking tool for shipments that Corning is paying the freight.

 

Projects involved with:

  • Identifying ways to improve efficiency of shipping operations.
  • Receivership & implementation of new processes into work area.

 

Travel Requirements:

  • Minimal in US

 

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • 8:00 – 5:00 Sometimes longer to ensure daily shipments are arranged.
  • May require some weekend work on short notice.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Min of one year of Shipping and Transportation required.
  • Safety conscious.
  • Attention to detail and desire to meet and exceed customer requirements.
  • Basic computer proficiency (e-mail, Word, Excel) and phone answering systems.
  • Knowledge and experience in shipping operations, to include import/export compliance and customs regulations.
  • Initiative to assertively work through daily obstacles and issues that arise in the routine operations.
  • Ability to effectively get work done through others in multiple groups and payrolls (associates, leadership, customer service, planning, 3rd party transportation providers).
  • Ability to build strong work relationships and proactively resolve conflicts.

 

Desired Skills:

  • 2-yr Applied Science desired.
  • Experience working with PeopleSoft computer systems.
  • Technical ability to troubleshoot basic ASRS operational issues.

 

Soft Skills (Communication/Team/Leadership):

  • Strong work ethic
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Significant phone and computer usage is necessary.
  • Ability to work at a desk and in the same general area all day, every workday.
  • Ability to work with changing groups of people (shifts, different dispatchers).
  • Ability to problem solve and make decisions.

The range for this position is  $39,480.00   -  $54,285.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
