Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

We are seeking an experienced EH&S Engineer to work collaboratively with team members, providing expertise in engineering and environmental health & safety. You will lead and support initiatives that enhance safety protocols, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote continuous improvement across our manufacturing processes. Your technical skills, project management experience, and passion for creating a safe workplace will help shape our commitment to being the lowest-cost producer while maintaining the highest standards in product quality and sustainability.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve complex technical and engineering challenges.
  • Provide day-to-day direction and engage with employees at all levels to ensure EH&S compliance.
  • Interact with federal, state, and local regulators to resolve compliance issues and manage audits.
  • Facilitate a robust safety and health management system, including conducting safety training and emergency response.
  • Assist in risk analysis, hazard identification, and implementation of risk mitigation measures.
  • Lead EHSS audits such as ISO 14001 and corporate safety assessments, while tracking corrective actions and analyzing trends.
  • Conduct sampling for environmental requirements and manage industrial and hazardous waste activities.
  • Develop site-specific programs to ensure compliance with laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Coordinate reporting, tracking, and trend analysis of workplace incidents and injuries.
  • Partner with project leaders to complete design reviews, risk assessments, and ensure safety standards are met.
  • Provide input to long-term goals for safety and health system improvements.

 

Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental/Occupational Health/Safety or related field or alternate degrees will be considered with demonstrated manufacturing experience in EHS, engineering or equivalent related experience
  • 2+ years industry experience
  • Extensive knowledge of environmental, safety, and health regulations.
  • Strong computer skills (proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

 

Preferred Skills:

 

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Certified Green Belt.
  • Experience in manufacturing, risk analysis, and behavior-based safety implementation.
  • Project management expertise.

The range for this position is $73,310.00 - $100,801.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
