Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

Apply scientific principles and sound judgment to complete technical projects, make decisions based on engineering methods, and collaborate across departments to address process and product issues while ensuring operational reliability. Independently manage medium to large projects, enhancing manufacturing capabilities with new ideas and methods while resolving moderately complex problems with minimal guidance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and develop projects to increase machine reliability in area of responsibility
  • Expected to provide 24X7 on-call support of equipment and process issues when escalated
  • Support cost reduction, process improvement and waste reduction projects (including DMAIC and DESGN level projects)
  • Support Equipment Improvement Efforts, including guiding team members from other cross functional areas in area of responsibility
  • Provide problem solving support to production operations as needed for process and machine issues
  • Manage production process performance improvement projects (Safety, Yield, Cost, Capacity).
  • Interface with operators, team leaders and peers to develop and implement process, equipment, or safety improvements into manufacturing
  • Work with engineering to develop equipment specifications/requirements.
  • Develop operator training and troubleshooting documentation
  • Provide support to division/process engineering during design reviews for new processes and equipment
  • Support other departments with data collection and reporting
  • Support Process Specialists with the training of production personnel on new equipment
  • Formally document all aspects of improvement activities
  • Provide problem solving support for plant equipment including training support personnel to improve troubleshooting skills plant-wide
  • Document processes and procedures required to enable production to run equipment and products efficiently and within specifications
  • Support the transfer of new cabling technology, materials, or processes from development to production. Provide processing support during product development. Ensure all production documentation is completed such as MI's, SOP's, PM's, calibration, and troubleshooting guides

 

  • Work Schedule: Mon – Fri 8 hrs/day (OT/Weekend work will be required)
  • On-call support may change from 24X7 support to rotational. Expected to be next level equipment support of maintenance work order escalation in high volume / low downtime environment.

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Two year electrical/mechanical technical degree OR 2+ years’ experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Sound decision making and prioritization skills.
  • Able to effectively work both independently and as part of a team; expected to deliver assigned tasks with very little direct supervision
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the plant organization
  • Ability to handle/prioritize multiple tasks as necessary with a continuous improvement mindset
  • Strong process and equipment troubleshooting skills
  • Mechanically and electrically inclined (aptitude for both)
  • Good written and verbal communication skills (detailed oriented)
  • Ability to train effectively
  • PC proficient (Excel, Word, SharePoint). Expected to be able to complete DMAIC Green Belt Level training.
  • Willing to act as a motivator and role model for the shift personnel
  • Controlled response in emergency situations

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Capable of using Diagnostic equipment
  • Basic understanding of PLC
  • PC – Data analysis (PI, etc.)
  • Electrical test equipment

The range for this position is $57,899.00 - $79,612.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
