Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.


Scope of Position:

Process technician within the plant new products engineering group supporting the new product introduction process, new product capability development, implementation of new products into manufacturing, and new manufacturing technology implementation.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Support plant safety programs to provide a safe working environment
  • Serve as a process resource for troubleshooting of production equipment and processes
  • Solve process issues through data analysis, experimentation, and collaboration with experts
  • Develop and update engineering and operations documentation
  • Provide training for operations workforce regarding new product specific requirements
  • Use Excel and/or statistical software for preliminary data analysis
  • Manage process logistics and experiment execution
  • Involvement with design of experiments
  • Mine plant systems for data and organizing data
  • Facilitate process to set-up new product in plant systems
  • Provide inputs to assess scope of work required for potential new products
  • Support design of new tooling required for new products
  • Interface to coordinate new product property and performance testing


Required Education and Experience:

  • Minimum 2 year Associate Degree in a technical field or related manufacturing experience
  • Minimum of one year process engineering technician experience
  • Basic knowledge of Six Sigma (DMAIC / DESGN) methodology
  • Technically curious, self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Learn new technology and processes quickly
  • Strong logistical skills
  • Capable to monitor and execute designed experiments
  • Equipment / process aptitude with ability to troubleshoot and characterize key process drivers
  • Strong data analysis and interpretation skills • Creative / innovative problem solving


Desired Skills:

  • Certified Six Sigma Green Belt or DMAIC project experience
  • Proficiency with MSExcel, SPCExcel, and/or Minitab or other statistical software
  • Familiarity reading and creating basic mechanical drawings
  • Manufacturing plant experience

Travel Requirements:

  • Minimal - domestic and/or international travel may be required but would be the exception


Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • Generally 40 hrs. per week M-F, but must be flexible.
  • There will be times where off shift work is required in order to support experimentation and implementation of projects.
