Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Scope of Position:
Plan, direct, and continually improve Lean Manufacturing activities at WCP with a strong focus on Waste Reduction and Equipment Effectiveness. Drive manufacturing improvements through the implementation of Lean concepts such as workplace organization, uninterrupted flow, error free processing, & setup time reduction. Independently lead Lean projects that enhance manufacturing capability and drive higher levels of performance in quality, cost, delivery, morale, & safety. Communicate and work with production, maintenance, scheduling and engineering to achieve plant goals and objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Implement systems and methodologies to improve flow and productivity, working closely with Production, Planning & Scheduling, Quality and Engineering groups.
- Identify and execute opportunities and projects for waste elimination to achieve increased equipment availability, increased performance, decreased cycle times, and reduction of material scrap.
- Plan and implement improvements on capital projects, support equipment installations, and display visual performance metrics according to Lean concepts.
- Participate as auditor and support for the 5S auditing system in the plant.
- Lead campaigns for the iKaizen system and provide general support to ensure success for the program.
- Run DMAIC projects and Kaizen events.
- Support incoming inspection of raw materials as dictated by defined schedules and documentation.
- Manage OEE/TAU improvement opportunities
- Benchmark opportunities and development of partnerships with sister plants Lean organizations.
Education and Experience – Required:
- Associate degree in a technical field with at least two year of relevant work experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledgeable of manufacturing systems (prefer SAP & CoMET)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Excellent inter-personal and communication skills (written and verbal) required.
Education and Experience – Desired:
- DMAIC Green Belt preferred, but not required.
- Background and familiarity with Lean concepts preferred.

The range for this position is $69,848.00 - $96,041.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
