Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 

Scope of Position:

Lead projects to drive continual improvement in the production of fiber optic cable and/or strengthen the Product Quality Architecture of manufacturing processes. Drive understanding and improvements to the overall Quality Management System.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Understand internal and external customers’ stated and implied needs as well as ensuring their expectations are met every time by monitoring, maintaining, supporting and continuously improving plant quality systems.
  • Research product returns to determine root cause and corrective actions.
  • Responsible for making product disposition decisions to ensure customer requirements and expectations are met.
  • Interface with various levels of plant and division management regarding quality and quality-related actions (Product Line Management, Engineering, Sales, Customer Service, Scheduling, Production, Inter-Plant, Inter-Division). This includes working closely with Product Line Management to establish plant quality parameters based on customer expectations and specifications.
  • Lead utilization of Quality Control Plans in daily troubleshooting, product/process change requests and product dispositions.
  • Provide statistical analysis and support to engineering and production as related to quality issues, product parameters, process changes, and new product qualification.
  • Actively contribute to various teams that identify and implement process improvements. Expected Project Involvement:
  • Lead and support projects to strengthen and automate the plant’s Product Quality Architecture. These projects could include improvements in quality management systems, material and process setup verifications, as well as implementing new process/product changes. These would be done using a Six Sigma, Lean, or similar management philosophy.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects that proactively address identified system weaknesses and support the organization’s drive to be the lowest cost cable producer.
  • Set and drive implementation of quality requirements for new product designs/transfers to ensure they are capable of meeting customer specifications and production requirements. This includes establishing requirements for new product demonstration test plans and analyzing the results with respect to customer, production, and product quality architecture requirements.

 

Required Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering Required Years and Area of Experience:
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a technical, quality, or manufacturing role Required Skills:
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills including the ability to develop and use database queries • Excellent organizational skills
  • Methodical, data-based decision-making skills with the ability to use this data in proactively finding solutions
  • Understanding of basic statistical and data analysis concepts
  • Good working knowledge of typical software applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS

 

Project Desired Skills:

  • Fiber Optic Cable and/or Hardware product knowledge is desired, but not required
  • SAP knowledge
  • Project management experience
  • Six Sigma training. A Green or Black Belt certification would be preferred
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control and Statistical Analysis
  • Experience with ISO 9001 or similar certification process Soft Skills:
  • Good written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to influence other groups in the organization to reach a common goal

 

Travel Requirements (please note if international):

  • Negligible (5% or less)
  • International travel potential for interactions with other divisional facilities

 

Hours of work/work schedule

  • Mon through Fri, 8am to 5pm.
  • Will be expected to attend off shift meetings or events.
