Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose:
This position involves the overall planning, implementation and optimization of activities and support required for the delivery of products and services to our business partners, from materials/service acquisition through shipment.
Day to Day Tasks:
- Scheduling, releasing to operations and pegging to shipments, supply chain related project work, and data analysis.
- Schedule production efficiently and cost-effective manner, based on equipment, labor and material availability to achieve operational objectives.
- Activities may include:
- Dating sales orders and releasing production orders to operations.
- Assigning fiber, managing fiber inventory, coloring plans, and finished goods to sales orders.
- Review production processes and coordinate with other planners / schedulers.
- Participate on teams focused on process improvements, including material flow, cycle times, improvements to MRP system, and data.
- Provide inputs, maintains planning/scheduling metrics, and reports to management on status and performance for assigned products.
- Manage the master production schedule to drive materials for customer requirements and optimizing required production fluctuation and inventory levels.
- Establishes planning strategies to maximize the optimal MRP environment for assigned product sets.
- Coordinates demand recognition for new products in MRP for new product introduction and product transfers between plants.
- Continually improve plant capacity analysis model and tools that calculate and report capacity consumption for all product lines both in manufacturing units and hours.
- Engages in materials coordination and capacity facilitation with plant procurement.
- Analyze internal and external processes (benchmarking) to maximize efficiency of function and systems.
- Lead new Planning & Procurement system implementation projects, with measuring and comparing actual production results against plans and forecasts.
- Use strong system skills and business knowledge to examine the effectiveness of manufacturing and support activities and communicating results.
- Determine scope of improvement projects; initiate and lead improvement projects as necessary.
- Develop reports and analysis for continuous improvement.
- Support production planning/master scheduling activities, production forecasting and reporting, while providing backup to certain planning functions.
- Work closely with production coordinators and team leaders to establish short- term and long-term expectations and execution of the production plan.
Hours / work schedule:
- Normal business hours, M-F. 40+ hours / week.
- Weekend / off-hours coverage required to support a 24/7 operation.
Education / Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree (Engineering, Supply Chain or Business preferred).
- 2-5+ years of relevant experience.
- Self-motivated, positive attitude.
- Experience leading and participating in cross functional teams.
- Comprehensive computer and Microsoft Office knowledge and skills.
- Strong Excel skills.
- Knowledge of basic principles of supply chain – planning, forecasting, capacity, and purchasing.
- Able to problem solve.
- Communications (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks.
- Knowledge of SAP or other MRP system.
Desired Skills:
- Strong background of continuous improvement.
- Project Management.
- Cables Manufacturing knowledge.
- Understand principles of inventory management.
- Capacity analysis experience.

The range for this position is $71,930.00 - $98,904.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
