Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose:

This position will lead all warehouse, packaging, shipping related activities including inbound and outbound logistics.  Position will supervise both hourly & salaried individuals.

Day to Day Tasks:

  • Leader of day-to-day activities for Packaging operations, inbound and outbound shipping operations, and all Warehouse support and inventory functions
  • Develops and implements strategies to increase productivity, reduce costs, and optimize customer service. Identify methods and processes to improve velocity of material moving through the plant.
  • Analyzes process performance data to make recommendations to Leadership team and highlight any shortcomings, as well as recommendations for resolution
  • Leads shipping process and function to ensure on-time delivery of Corning’s products to domestic and international customers. Ensures that all shipments comply fully with government import/export regulations.
  • Manage the relationship with internal customers; collaborate with operations, engineering, quality for issue resolution, continuous improvement, or to improve supply chain effectiveness.
  • Develops the team in an environment that supports safety, empowerment, and continuous improvement.
  • Responsible for the development of department personnel through establishing objectives, performance appraisal, feedback and direction that are aligned with business, product and individual development needs.
  • Serve as a business resource for the MES and ERP systems, working in conjunction with system SME positions to ensure systems in use are effective.
  • Directly responsible for performing work in a safe manner and maintaining a safe work environment.  Responsible for his/her safety, as well as that of others that may be at the facility, whether working or visiting. Responsible for observing safe work practices and being proactive for reporting unsafe conditions.

Required Experience & Education:

  • 4 year degree from an accredited college or university, B.S., B. A.
    • Degree in supply chain or APICS certification preferred
  • 5+ years’ experience in supply chain and/or manufacturing operations leadership.  
  • Successful and proven supervisory, team leader and/or department leadership experience in a supply chain, warehousing, or production manufacturing plant environment.
  • Experience and accountability for developing, implementing, and driving results for department performance metrics.
  • Proven capability to manage, coach, direct and develop salaried exempt and non-exempt employees, training in employee effectiveness, conflict resolution, coaching, listening skills, and supervisory effectiveness.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal, throughout all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with ability to interact across functions (engineering, supply chain, etc.) and at all levels of the organization.
  • Certified Green Belt or demonstrated Lean capabilities.
  • Training, understanding and demonstrated competence in operational financials.
  • Trained and experienced in fundamentals of safety and health.
  • Experience managing the talent development strategy for the department, including programs to attract, develop and retain key talent.
  • Proven data analysis capability through use of common business tools (SAP, Excel, PowerBI)

Desired Skills:

  • Understanding of Cable Products, Materials and Manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.  SAP experience preferred.
  • Exposure to multiple processes, businesses, and corporate network resources.
  • Has participated or led a cross-functional team in process/department responsible to deliver key improvement initiative or cost reduction program.
  • Experience and competence of innovation and new process receivership; has participated or led a project team responsible to develop and/or launch a new process or step change improvement.

The range for this position is $91,842.00 - $126,284.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
