Scope of Position:

In this role, you will direct the plant engineering organization including facilities in support of achieving lowest possible competitive costs, advantaged products, and superior quality and service. We look for you to manage plant and manufacturing processes and technologies to expand capabilities. Manage improvement portfolios such as capital, cost reduction, and Performance Excellence. Manage facility and equipment maintenance activities. Will also have site environmental, health, and safety responsibilities.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Define and successfully manage plant portfolios: capital, cost reduction, Performance Excellence, etc.
  • Define, manage, and support continuous improvement of existing manufacturing processes.
  • Lead plant involvement in innovation and product development processes to insure effective transfer of new products and processes to manufacturing.
  • Establish a culture that values engineering competency and deployment of the scientific method.
  • Assure growth in talent and capability of the plant engineering staff.
  • Build an effective technical network of relationships at the plant, division, and corporate level.
  • Increase the body of knowledge in support of advancing plant and process technologies and capabilities
  • Champion Performance Excellence and other corporate manufacturing engineering initiatives as required.
  • Manage and maintain plant facilities.
  • Direct and facilitate the development, implementation, maintenance and improvement of required safety, health and environmental programs, processes, and training.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable EHS laws, policies, codes and regulations, seeking advice from outside agencies, and corporate departments when necessary.
  • Work to ensure that the facility remains current in all external reporting requirements to corporate, state, local and federal agencies.
  • Coordinate reporting, tracking, and trend analysis of workplace incidents, injuries and illnesses as well as environmental incidents. Maintain metrics of facilities’ EHS performance, and ensure that performance data is communicated to the facility employees and the corporate environmental, health and safety organizations
  • Maintain all essential utilities to meet manufacturing schedules.
  • Plan, schedule and supervise the work activity of outside contractors.
  • Ensure effectiveness of preventative and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Coordinate the maintenance requirement specifications with equipment engineering for the design of new machinery.
  • Plan plant and office layouts, and help in the planning of production equipment layouts for economy of operations and maximum utilization of facilities and equipment.
  • Coordinate outside contractor bidding on facility construction projects.

 

Travel Requirements:

  • Up to 25%

 

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • Standard business hours; Monday – Friday.

 

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field related.

 

Required Years and Area of Experience:

  • Minimum 5+ years of engineering experience with increasing responsibilities with exposure to multiple manufacturing processes.
  • Minimum 1+ years of experience supervising others. 

 

Required Skills:

  • Biological production and/or engineering experience.
  • Experience in leading teams and departments.
  • Demonstrated track record of growing talent.

 

Desired Experience / Qualifications / Skills:

  • Experience with environmental, health, and safety and facilities management.
  • Experience in technical collaboration with staff engineering groups
  • Experience in managing capital projects and the innovation process.
  • Experience with project management, quality, operations, facilities, performance excellence.
