As a leading developer, manufacturer, and global supplier of scientific laboratory products for 100 years, Corning’s Life Sciences segment collaborates with researchers seeking new approaches to increase efficiencies, reduce costs and compress timelines in the drug discovery process. Using unique expertise in the fields of materials science, surface science, optics, biochemistry and biology, the segment provides innovative solutions that improve productivity and enable breakthrough discoveries.

Role Purpose

Lead and manage a technical team to deliver engineering rigor and manufacturing excellence for the Woodland manufacturing site for process troubleshooting, control improvements, and solution deployment operational challenges.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Engineering
• Troubleshoot manufacturing issues and perform root cause analysis to implement corrective actions.
• Develop department and plant roadmaps with metrics for controlled manufacturing processes.
• Prioritize and drive continuous improvement in Quality, Cost, Delivery, Morale, Safety, and Innovation (QCDMS+I).

 

Project Management and Execution
• Lead projects to standardize processes, improve efficiency, and reduce costs in line with plant objectives.
• Manage capital and process improvement projects from concept to implementation, including scope, resources, equipment, construction, start-up, and validation.

 

Manufacturing Excellence
• Apply engineering principles to integrate new control and process technologies into manufacturing.
• Deploy process measurement and control systems and oversee site calibration compliance.
• Support and improve quality management systems through documentation, audits, and corrective actions.

 

Engineering Rigor / Technical Expertise
• Build cross-functional teams to solve complex operational and engineering challenges using robust change management processes.
• Close technical capability gaps by introducing innovative tools and systems for operations and facilities improvement.
• Lead efforts to enhance process reliability and support new manufacturing processes and equipment.

 

Leadership and Development
• Supervise facility and maintenance resources to achieve site objectives and drive continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with operations management, engineers, and maintenance teams to enhance efficiency.
• Mentor facility personnel in engineering, process improvement, tools, and controls.
• Develop career strategies with leadership, focusing on strengths, opportunities, and growth.
• Create professional development plans and manage progress through SMART goals and continuing education.

Experiences/Education - Required

• Bachelor of Science in an Engineering or Physical Sciences discipline.

• Minimum of 5 years experience in engineering or technical roles with progressing responsibilities.

• Experience in process engineering, maintenance, controls and measurements, or equipment engineering.  

• Strong leadership skills.  Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills with the ability to develop others.

• Demonstrated project management experience including design, execution resource management and start-up with a proven track record of achieving results.

• Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional efforts with manufacturing, quality, plant leadership, other functional leaders. 

 

0-5% domestic travel may be required

Normal work schedule: Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Experiences/Education - Desired

• Minimum of 3 years supervisory and leadership experience of engineering teams.

• Work experience in aseptic processing, pharmaceutical or medical device manufacturing.

• Experience in technical problem solving and root cause analysis to drive improvements in manufacturing process capability, machine reliability and equipment output

• Experience in the transfer and integration new technology into a manufacturing environment including process startup and technical knowledge transfer.

• Experience/certification in the application PEx tools, Problem Solving skills, MEE tools.

• Experience coaching and mentoring technical personnel. Able to provide direction and motivate others within an extended project team that may include outside contractors and vendors.

The range for this position is $121,605.00 - $167,207.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
