Scope of Position:

Position reports to Plant Manager to provide operational leadership in production of cell culture media and serum products. Develops and recommends plant management strategies and lean tools to improve safety, quality, efficiency, productivity and unit cost for all products. Provide direction, vision, and supervision to plant operations team members to achieve safety, quality, delivery and cost goals.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to shift leads and hourly associates to achieve plant objectives for safety, quality, productivity, delivery and unit cost goals.
  • Supervise overall production schedule of all production lines to ensure productivity targets are met.
  • Drive continuous improvements utilizing lean and Six Sigma tools (Value stream mapping, Kaizen, DMAIC, etc.)
  • Recruit, interview, select hourly personnel and guide development through training and annual performance appraisals.
  • Review and analyze production and financial reports to understand variances and develops actions plans for improvement.
  • Ensure the alignment of manufacturing with quality systems (often with “hands-on” quality review and enforcement of adherence to QOPs, MMRs, and relevant regulations and practices—ex: product handling, finishing, gowning, documentation)
  • Coordinate, set-up, publish, and implement standard operating (QOPs) procedures for all manufacturing operations in line with ISO 13485 and the FDA’s Quality System Regulation
  • Hands-on manufacturing (from bulk HI to filling in gaps on big days to showing leadership by example on the floor)
  • Formulation support and review
  • Real-time troubleshooting of equipment/process failures (coordinating response across relevant departments)
  • Ensure that the production process is operating in compliance to established control set-points and operating procedures.
  • Enforce process discipline and rigorous change control.
  • Communicate and report production and process performance metrics to production teams, plant staff and functional leaders.
  • Ensure that production targets and delivery requirements are met on a daily and weekly basis.

Required Education:

• BS or BA Degree (preferably in a biological or chemical science field)


Required Years and Area of Experience:

  • 3-5 years operations experience in manufacturing environment


Required Skills:

  • MS Office (PowerPoint, Word and Excel)
  • Ability to comprehend, analyze, and solve complex problems
  • Ability to work independently in a dynamic business and manufacturing environment
  • 1-2 years supervisory experience leading teams


Desired Skills:
