Brief Description of Role:

Subject matter expert for plastic resins and raw materials, including raw material testing and characterization, used to manufacture Corning Life Sciences products. 

Provide input to Resin Council regarding the needs of regional plants as well as the capabilities and materials available from local or regional material vendors.

Plastic resin and raw material technical support for Division-wide or multi-plant injection molding projects, with a primary focus in Asia.

Maintain knowledge base of new technologies and raw materials in support of cost reduction and quality improvement projects.

Provide input (with supporting data to justify) into product validations using new resins in alignment with Division New Material Selection and Validation Strategy

 

Description of Work:

  • Subject Matter Expert in plastic resins and raw materials, specifically polystyrene, polypropylene, polyethylene and permeable membranes.
  • Subject Matter Expect in raw material testing and characterization.
  • Assess the capabilities of reginal raw material vendors and how they could support the Regional Division Engineering Plastics Forming Strategy.
  • Support of Division Quality’s Division wide Validation Strategy by developing validation protocols to be executed by plant engineering.
  • Reginal technology receiver for surface treatment and modification processes (including local knowledge management, establishing ongoing support structure, and development of validation protocols to be executed by plant engineering).
  • Provides process engineering support during the debug and validation on alternate raw materials. 
  • Drives fundamental understanding and problem solving skills, including working closely with vendors and plant engineering to resolve manufacturing challenges. 
  • Ensures compliance to all plant and division standards.
  • Uses rigorous processes and technical knowledge to build detailed technical understanding for key process steps.
  • Functions as a team member or team leader on focused projects.

 

 

Travel Requirements

  • Up to 20%, including International Travel

     

    Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time

  • M-F 40+ hrs.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Required

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Polymer Science
  • Minimum of 5-7 years in a Plastics Materials Engineering role
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience supporting an injection molding facility
  • Yellow Belt Performance Excellence training.
  • Bi-lingual(English/Chinese)

 

Desired

  • Masters of Science (Engineering or Applied Science) 
  • Performance Excellence Green Belt Certification
  • Polymer Science background with experience in polymer surface modifications
  • Experience with injection molding process development and debug
