System engineer Scope of Position

  • Provide technical leadership in the field of machine vision inspection including specification, design, development, implementation and test of inspection methods and systems.
  • Regularly work with a variety of cross functional teams including Development, Manufacturing Operations, Process, Equipment, Quality, Product Engineering, IT, and Procurement to define, develop, purchase, and implement imaging technologies.
  • Leverage external suppliers of key technologies and maintain relationships with frequent contact.
  • Define system requirements, competitively quote, conduct design reviews, issue purchase orders, track supplier build and delivery, perform on-site acceptance testing.
  • Design, organize, and perform experiments in both lab and production environments, analyze data, issue reports, and communicate findings to all involved parties.
  • Define, communicate and execute change required in equipment, procedures, and manufacturing processes. Use available data and error logs to assess performance or provide onsite or remote troubleshooting and debugging assistance of hardware and software systems, components, and utilities required for operation of mass production systems.
  • Train engineering, maintenance and operations people on theory, use, and maintenance of systems.
  • Required Education and Experience Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent technical experience Demonstrated knowledge in a technical field Work experience in a related field preferred but not required Track record of delivering results Experience working in teams Required Technical Skills: Experience with systems related to machine vision technologies Experienced with inspection and metrology supporting mass production Multi-disciplined understanding of systems In depth understanding of optical and imaging concepts and components.
  • Experience with optical/mechanical/electrical equipment installations and troubleshooting Strong communication and presentation skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) Knowledge of image processing techniques and analysis


Essential Non-Technical Skills

  • Experience in instrumentation and measurements.  
  • Familiar with displacement sensors, surface profilers, critical glass attributes, size and shape measurement methodologies. 
  • Solid understanding of statistical methods / analysis of systems
  • Vision and free space optics understanding
  • Hands on equipment experience, either in maintenance or installation


Job Responsibilities

  • Work with a global team of technical experts to develop new measurement technologies for glass substrate manufacturing; develop and maintain understanding of the basic principles of those systems.
  • Provide technical training to plant employees on theory, operation and calibration of existing and new measurement systems.
  • Assure safety of operators and equipment through compliance with all safety and environmental regulations.
  • Be responsible for documentation of measurement equipment including machine specifications, SOP's, calibration procedures, etc.
  • Provide problem solving support to production, development and research operations.
