Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
We are looking for a talented and hands-on R&D System Integration Engineer to join our Metrology Engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for the integration, validation, and optimization of advanced measurement and test systems supporting the development of next-generation micro-optics and co-packaged optics connectivity solutions.
You will work at the interface of optics, mechanics, automation, software, and manufacturing to bring new metrology concepts from development into robust, scalable, and high-throughput systems. This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, working with multidisciplinary teams, and turning innovative ideas into reliable industrial solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Integrate complex measurement and test systems combining optical, mechanical, electrical, and software components.
- Support the development, assembly, commissioning, and validation of advanced metrology systems for R&D and manufacturing applications.
- Collaborate with R&D, process engineering, automation, software, and manufacturing teams to ensure successful system integration and deployment.
- Troubleshoot system-level issues related to hardware, alignment, motion control, sensors, optics, and data acquisition.
- Develop and execute system integration plans, test protocols, and validation procedures.
- Optimize system performance in terms of accuracy, repeatability, throughput, and reliability.
- Support the transfer of newly developed measurement systems into production environments.
- Work with external suppliers and contractors to specify, integrate, and qualify components and subsystems.
- Document system architecture, integration steps, test results, and technical recommendations.
- Contribute to continuous improvement activities related to system robustness, maintainability, and industrialization.
- Stay informed about emerging technologies in metrology, automation, micro-optics, and precision engineering.
Qualifications
Education
- Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in Optics, Photonics, Physics, Mechatronics, Automation, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Experience
- Experience in system integration, test engineering, automation engineering, or a related technical role.
- Hands-on experience integrating multidisciplinary systems involving mechanics, optics, sensors, motion control, and software.
- Experience with development or deployment of measurement systems, automation platforms, or precision equipment.
- Familiarity with troubleshooting complex technical systems in laboratory or manufacturing environments.
- Experience with precision positioning systems, piezo stages, hexapods, or similar micromechanical solutions is an asset.
- Knowledge of vision systems, interferometers, or other optical measurement technologies is an advantage.
- Experience working in cleanroom environments or knowledge of cleanroom ISO standards is a plus.
Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a hands-on engineering mindset.
- Ability to work across disciplines and collaborate effectively with global, cross-functional teams.
- Strong attention to detail and a structured approach to testing, validation, and documentation.
- Good communication skills and the ability to clearly present technical findings.
- Proficiency in English; Polish is an advantage.
- Willingness to work in a dynamic R&D environment and support the transition of technologies into production.
