GSM Supplier Quality Engineer
PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVE
Reporting directly to the Global Supplier Quality Manager, this position will focus on developing supplier quality management by analyzing GSM and business needs, implementing cooperate standards and continue Supplier Performance Management based on continuous improvement and Zero Defect strategies.
This position works closely with other functions within the organization (Quality, Manufacturing, R&D, Engineering, Procurement and other GSM functions) and is responsible for increasing Supplier Performance of Suppliers and supplied finished goods and components.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Develop and drive Supplier Quality Management Standardization within GSM, the businesses and R&D by leading activities to synchronize needs and increasing process standardization and continuous improvement activities where applicable
Strategically lead supplier performance improvement projects in an effort to increase the supplier capability of consistently meeting specification requirements. Projects may include: using PQA, PeX, Six Sigma tools, DMAIC, FMEA, DOE, MSA, process analysis, value stream mapping and process capability.
Work within GSM and close to the business (quality departments) to support supplier performance is regularly reported and that appropriate and timely corrective actions are coordinated.
Monitor, communicate and improve key supplier KPI’s and support critical supplier activities based on short / long term supplier quality goals
Cross functional development to qualify new suppliers and their materials following a defined new product development process
Develop of long‐term supplier relationships and generate and implement cost reduction ideas
Support problem solving and root cause analysis activities with suppliers and customers to eliminate recurrence of non‐conformances
Drive “Zero Defect” mentality within Corning and the supply base
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of the regulatory industry requirements ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO13485, IATF16949 and Quality Systems Regulations “QMS”.
Working knowledge of databases, spreadsheet applications, Microsoft Project, Statistic tools, to perform necessary tasks for preparing required data analysis, reports, documents and general communication.
Ability to work independently with strong time management and prioritization skills to handle multiple assignments and interact with cross functional teams.
Must be action oriented, make informed decisions, be self-motivated, ability to influence individuals without authority and to motivate others within a project team.
Must be an effective communicator (verbal and written), highly organized, motivated, detail oriented with excellent analytical thinking and problem solving skills.
Flexibility to assume ownership on projects and coordinate the efforts of others to complete project goals or participate on a team to support other project Leads; must also possess the ability to effectively manage conflict.
Knowledge of manufacturing processes and relevant statistical methods for quality assurance, i.e., capable of Six-Sigma skills, certification preferred.
Good understanding of Continuous Improvement/PeX Methodologies, including lean, six sigma, statistical applications and validation.
Flexibility to travel to different Corning plants, regional offices and headquarters to analyze, workshop with relevant teams and communicate on a regular base and around the globe.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Performs job duties in a normal office environment, with the exception of periodic exposure to different Corning locations and manufacturing sites. Adheres to plant safety requirements and OSHA.
Frequently exposed to fumes and high frequency noise in manufacturing areas.
Safety glasses, hair covering and hearing protection are required on the manufacturing floor and other designated areas.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
BS Degree in Quality, Engineering or Statistical field.
Minimum of 4 years of Quality Management experience.
Preferred:
Minimum 2 years’ experience in quality auditing
Corning relevant technologies (Display, filter, pharmacy, etc.) knowledge and experiences.
