Description

The Sheet Metal Fabrication Technician provides day-to-day technical engineering support to the fabrication manufacturing shop floor to ensure metal fabrication processes are operating optimally and to meeting customer requirements.

Responsibilities

General

·         Support in analysis and problem solving in manufacturing related issues

·         Coordinate use and purchase of operation-specific tools

·         Provide initial training to operational training department

·         Support activities related to continuous improvement projects

·         Support creation and release of process documentation for the area

·         Support in designs and creation of fixtures for process improvements

·         Follow up to completion on safety related findings with the area engineer

·         Perform internal process audits to ensure processes are within the requires specifications

·         Ensure 5s requirements are being met in area

·         Evaluate the use of specific tools for processes - Impacts specific area metrics (OEE, OTD, CoQ)

·         Purchase of operation related consumables - Impacts specific area metrics (OTD, OTP)

·         Contribute and participate in Internal and External Audits in department, as well as being responsible for the good results of such. Examples Audits include: ISO, TL, 5's, Safety, and Sarbox

 

Cutting Processes

·         Support purchase, maintenance and care of thick turret tooling

·         Coordinate use and purchase of gas for laser processes

 

Bending Processes

Support purchase and care of bending and PEM insertion tooling

Coordinate use and purchase of gas for welding processes

 

Paint Processes

·         Ensure all process parameters in the paint system are within controls

·         Coordinate use and purchase of chemicals for pre-treatment and water treatment systems

·         Run periodical checks on temperature profiles of the paint ovens

 

Education

·         Technical school bachelor or combination of high school with 2 years of sheet metal operation experience

 

Work Experience

·         None with degree

·         2 years in Metal fabrication with High School only      

Additional Skills

General Requirements

·         Able to read and understand engineering drawings/specifications

·         Basic knowledge of DMAIC methodology

·         Basic understanding of lean manufacturing tools

·         Basic written and spoken English skills

·         Demonstrate methodic problem analysis and solving skills

·         Normally receives detailed instructions on all work

·         Works on assignments that are routine in nature where limited judgement is required

Cutting Processes

·         Understand basic theory of turrets process and tooling. (General characteristics and safety considerations)

·         Understand basic punching concepts

 

Bending Processes

·         Basic knowledge/understanding of tooling for press brake and PEM insertion machines

·         Basic knowledge/understanding of press brake and PEM insertion machines operation

·         Basic knowledge on welding, sanding/grinding operations (general characteristics, safety considerations, tools, equipment)

 

Paint Process

·         Understand basic powder paint application principles and concepts

·         Basic understanding of printing processes and PEM insertion machines
