Corning’s Display Technologies segment manufactures glass substrates for active matrix liquid crystal displays (“LCDs”) that are used primarily in LCD televisions, notebook computers and flat panel desktop monitors.


Purpose of the Position:

Support the TOD engineering leaders to implement controls system including process electrical engineering strategy, responsible for designing, developing, and implementing solutions for the hot-end process including “Capsule” in Corning Display.

  • Lead or support development, design and execution on TOD controls and process electrical system to achieve reliability and stability requirements.
  • Able to work with Measurement and Controls Technology communities to define adequate controls system architecture and controls loop design.
  • Support capital expansion and repair projects in terms of process controls engineering.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Own, develop and set up new core capacity on electrical related field i.e. Preventive/Predictive maintenance of electrical equipment, Controls system and SCR…etc.
  • Provide controls and electrical design support for melting, forming and capsule process area on new expansions, repairs, and equipment upgrades.
  • Lead Technology/Knowledge Transfer from Division Engineering group to plants. Plants located primarily in Asia.  New Expansions in China.
  • Thoroughly document all designs/developments to ensure fast and efficient technology transfer to Display Technologies facilities.
  • Lead Level 3 manufacturing support activities to immediate solution for production and permanent solutions for improvement and process optimization.

Education & Experience: 

  • Bachelor or Master of Science Degree in Electrical or Controls area.
  • Working experience as a process control engineer use process control to automate and control operational variables such as flow rates, temperatures, for example Petrochemical or Glass industries is a plus.
  • Having the knowledge of various process electrical systems and equipment, such as electronic devices, valve, instrumentation, digital and analog controls and feedback devices.
  • Prefer 8+ years of experience in designing and commissioning process electrical system including SCR or VFD as final control elements.  Proven track record for successful system design and commissioning.
  • Fundamental understanding of electrical systems, industrial controls systems (PLC), grounding protection system.
  • Fundamental understanding of AC480 3-phase electrical and its power regulation systems, low voltage (<AC600) equipment and devices such as transformer, SCR/VFD, motor, UPS, protection relay/breaker etc. are essential
  • Failure Analysis of electrical system equipment
  • Willing to understand Corning hot-end process and then apply the engineering solution for process improvement and optimization as a process controls expert.
  • Able to create functional specification and perform software development.
  • Project Leadership experience (specification, scope, budget and schedule)
  • Control cabinet layout and design per NEC, IEC or China standard.
  • Project Leadership Experience (defining scopes, budget, timelines, etc.)
  • Design and commissioning field devices to controls system, such as VFD, Instrumentation (Oxygen, Dew, Pressure, Temperature), and performing FAT and SAT.

Desired Skills:


  • Experience in VFD application to process environment controls equipment and construction site management.
  • Experience in root cause failure analysis (troubleshooting) of controls and electrical systems.
  • Ability to read P&ID and validate the process control design and make corrections.
  • Use Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, Word, Project, and Visio.
  • Edit drawings using AutoCad or Eplan
  • Design electrical and controls cabinets and systems.
  • Experience with Design tools: PPA, FMEA, DA

Soft Skills:

  • Ability to work independently and directly with project customers to define project scope, identify project requirements and deliverables and satisfy objectives/timelines with a minimal amount of supervision.
  • Cross-cultural Sensitivity, Ability to work in a diversity team-based environment and participate on a matrix project team, Team player, perform well as an individual subject matter expert contributor.
  • Ability to communicate and sell your ideas to gain stakeholder’s approvals.
