Corning’s Display Technologies segment manufactures glass substrates for active matrix liquid crystal displays (“LCDs”) that are used primarily in LCD televisions, notebook computers and flat panel desktop monitors.

 

 

Purpose of the Position

Support the TOD engineering leaders to implement process electrical strategy, manage process electrical power related project portfolio, own TOD core electrical capabilities and technologies and coordinate Facility power electrical team to improve or optimize process electrical design and configuration.

  • Support development, design and execution on TOD process electrical system to achieve reliability and stability requirements.
  • Able to work with DTAP, Facility power engineering team to define adequate power system settings including Power factor, circuit coordination.
  • Support capital expansion and repair projects in terms of process electrical engineering.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities

  • Provide Electrical Design support for Melting Furnace Installations, repairs and equipment upgrades.
  • Lead Technology/Knowledge Transfer from Central Engineering group to plants majority in China, and minority outside of China.
  • Thoroughly document all designs/developments to ensure fast and efficient technology transfer to Display Technologies facilities.
  • Lead Level 3 manufacturing support activities to immediate solution for production and permanent solutions for improvement and process optimization.

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor or Master of Science Degree in power or electrical engineering.
  • Licensed or certified as a Professional Engineer with a focus in Electrical Power systems preferred.

 

Required Skills

  • Willing to understand Corning hot-end process and then apply the engineering solution for process improvement and optimization as a process electrical expert.
  • Expertise in Modern Power System Design (architecture and detailed level design) including SCR Controllers, Transformer Design, Efficiency, an understanding of National Electric Code and other code compliance standards.
  • Project Leadership experience (specification, scope, budget and schedule)
  • Strong understanding of Electrical Engineering Control Systems (Digital and Classical Control System Theory)
  • Strong understanding of Electromagnetic Theory (Inductance, impedance derivation and calculations)
  • Strong understanding of Digital circuit Design and Electrical Devices (SCRs, Circuit Breakers, Power Cables, etc.)
  • Familiarity performing complex engineering power calculation utilizing tools like MATLAB, Microsoft Excel and general inclination to software mastery.
  • Project Leadership Experience (defining scopes, budget, timelines, etc.)
  • CAD capability for electrical drawing modification or revision.
